Just if you want to know the difference between software and hardware encryption of GELI on a VIA Nano CPU for a GELI encrypted partition, here are the results.

The CPU is a VIA C7:
dmesg
FreeBSD 9.1-RC3 #0 r242577: Mon Nov  5 03:37:21 EET 2012
    root@download:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC i386
CPU: VIA C7 Processor 1000MHz (997.52-MHz 686-class CPU)
  Origin = "CentaurHauls"  Id = 0x6d0  Family = 6  Model = d  Stepping = 0
  Features=0xa7c9b9ff<FPU,VME,DE,PSE,TSC,MSR,PAE,MCE,CX8,SEP,MTRR,PGE,
CMOV,PAT,CLFLUSH,ACPI,MMX,FXSR,SSE,SSE2,TM,PBE>
  Features2=0x4181<SSE3,EST,TM2,xTPR>
  AMD Features=0x100000<NX>
  VIA Padlock Features=0xffcc<RNG,AES,AES-CTR,SHA1,SHA256,RSA>

avail memory = 1009991680 (963 MB)
...
padlock0: <AES-CBC,SHA1,SHA256> on motherboard
...

For this purpose bonnie is used from ports ( /usr/ports/benchmarks/bonnie ) with the following command:

  bonnie -d /home -s 1500MB

Note that the system memory is 1024MB.
