Comparing Source Trees in FreeBSD using diff like GUI tool PDF
Saturday, 10 March 2012
If you are a programmer that likes to use IDEs and GUI tools for application development, there are some useful diff like tools in FreeBSD ports for comparing trees of source codes.

If you are using KDE4 window manager, there's kdiff3:

  cd /usr/ports/textproc/kdiff3
  make install clean
  ln -s /usr/local/kde4/bin/kdiff3 /usr/local/bin/kdiff3

If you are using Gnome2 there's meld:

  cd /usr/ports/textproc/meld
  make install clean

These tools are comparable to WinMerge app from Windows, if you came from that environment. Of course there's always good old diff and patch.
