Format an USB stick to FAT32 in FreeBSD PDF
Friday, 09 March 2012
In order to format an USB stick to FAT32 we will do the following steps:

Make sure your USB stick is detected by running:

  dmesg | grep da

If your drive appears in your da list, it's there. Recognise drive name and capacity. Let's say our drive is da0.

Then we clean the drive (remove previous partition):

  dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/da0 bs=1m

or, if we want to better wipe previous info:

  dd if=/dev/random of=/dev/da0 bs=1m

Then we will create the slice:

  fdisk -i /dev/da0

Then we will create the FAT32 file system:

  newfs_msdos -F32 /dev/da0s1
