If you have bad SSH connection to your server, fact that happends from time to time when using mobile internet or ADSL, we can use screen utility from ports to connect to a dropped SSH connection. Screen utility is in fact a screen manager.

We install it from ports:

  /usr/ports/sysutils/screen
  make install clean

We run it from command line:

  screen
(then we press Enter)

To see the current screens we use

  screen -ls

To detach from a screen session:

  Ctrl + a d

To reatach to the screen session:

  screen -r 45540.pts-0.server

Where 45540.pts-0.server was obtain with screen -ls.

There is also the possibility for multiple users to connect to the same screen. Every one of them will see the same thing. This is usefull for learning/teaching purposes.

For more info see screen(4) man page:

  man screen
