Optimize / Minify Your Javascript Files in FreeBSD PDF
Sunday, 12 June 2011
The idea is to optimize (minify) your JavaScript and CSS files to improve speed / performance (faster loads). It will remove spaces and will rename functions and variables to shorter names. Did you knew that this app was in FreeBSD ports?

  cd /usr/ports/www/yuicompressor
  make install clean

You will need to have Java installed on your system.

Then to optimize filename.js file we use:

  yuicompressor filename.js > filename.min.js

You don't know what minify is? Read the Minification section from Wikipedia:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minify
