To upgrade to FreeBSD 8.2 Release we will use freebsd-update command:

freebsd-update upgrade -r 8.2-RELEASE
freebsd-update install

You will then get the following message:

Installing updates...
Kernel updates have been installed. Please reboot and run
"/usr/sbin/freebsd-update install" again to finish installing updates.

Do a reboot and then run again:

freebsd-update install
