Today Quick Tip: FreeBSD Security Update PDF

To update your FreeBSD system for security problems do:

Will fetch security updates and inform you about files that will be updated:

  /usr/sbin/freebsd-update fetch

Then we will install them:

  freebsd-update install


If kernel was recompiled then you will see a p and a patch number for your update when you execute: uname -a.
If kernel was not recompiled look in file: /usr/src/sys/conf/newvers.sh for patch level.
cat /usr/src/sys/conf/newvers.sh | grep BRANCH

BRANCH="RELEASE-p2"
