In order to configure your wifi card with a static IP add the following lines to /etc/rc.conf:

/etc/rc.conf
wlans_ath0="wlan0"
ifconfig_wlan0="WPA inet 192.168.1.10 netmask 0xffffff00"
defaultrouter="192.168.1.1"

 Also don't forget to add your dns server in /etc/resolv.conf file.
