Install an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) on FreeBSD PDF
Tuesday, 02 December 2014
If you want to install an open source Intrusion Detection System on FreeBSD there's Snort and Suricata. Let's install Suricata:

  cd /usr/ports/security/suricata
  make install clean

Then you must configure it. Best approach to using an IDS is on a dedicated machine. Use a router with three ethernet ports, WAN, LAN and DMZ (the one for IDS). Configure port mirror of WAN to the DMZ one and connect there the box with IDS software.
